Laurie Raymond - 1974 Tennis

Laurie Raymond was a four-year standout in field hockey, basketball and tennis before graduating from Wayland High School in 1974. She was a captain or co-captain in all three sports. She was an important part of a basketball team that won the championship of the Eastern Massachusetts state basketball tournament in 1974.

Laurie went to Brown University and played five different varsity sports for the Bears; tennis (1 year), lacrosse (3 years), basketball (2 years), ice hockey (2 years) and soccer (4 years). She graduated from Brown in 1978 with a degree in geology/biology and earned a master’s in nursing in 1998.

Laurie was employed at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute from 1979-1987. She also worked at a residential home for troubled boys from 1987-1995.

Raymond currently works at Cape Cod Eye/Nose/Throat as a nurse practitioner. She remains active and still plays in a women's hockey league. Laurie enjoys a community of close friends on Cape Cod, where she has lived for the past 27 years. She would like to credit her parents, the late Loring and Edythe Raymond, “for their quiet and constant support of my enjoyment of athletics.”
